I prioritize clarity, nuance, and author authority.
I take word choice seriously and edit with the nuances of context and implication in mind.
Most importantly, I believe that honoring your mission as an author is the first job of an editor.
My editing style is rigorous and detailed. I pay attention to every angle of your book or paper, noting any points that may lead to confusion or muddiness.
I both make changes and leave thorough comments, questions, and suggestions in the margins. My comments and questions are intended to help clarify your thinking and orient yourself toward your own priorities with your work.
I know how one word or the placement of one sentence can change a meaning or shift the emphasis of a point, and how important this is in fields that prioritize and/or study language. Nuance is EVERYTHING in fields that tackle intricate human questions and issues.
I also work with many ESL writers and recognize how difficult it is to be doing complex work in English! I will always check in with you to make sure I am understanding your point correctly. Just as importantly, I will ALWAYS be respectful and kind.
My ultimate goal is that I want you to come out of your edit with me not just with a clean, clear manuscript, but feeling like you and your work are seen and understood. I want you to feel rejuvenated and excited for your next steps.

FAQs

How does pricing work?
I price by the word or by flat-rate fee. You will know the full cost and scope of the project before the work is started: so no surprises, ever!
Do you offer discounts?
Yes! I realize how expensive good editorial services are, and how inaccessible they can be, especially for students. If you are in need of pricing assistance, please ask.
Do you take institutional funding?
Yes!
When can I expect my edit returned?
I work at a rate of approximately 10,000 words per week. If your project is under 10,000 words you will have it back within 5 business days.
Do you do coaching?
All developmental edit clients receive two complementary 50-minute meetings, if desired (though not required). Otherwise, I am open to discussing coaching with clients who would like more interactive, long-term feedback.
I write fiction: can I still work with you?
Yes! I am open to working with select fiction authors. Creative work isn’t static across genres. If you write fiction and think we’d be a good fit, get in touch. I’d love to hear from you.
